Northern California DX Club Pic Nic:

George and I set up the "go kit" at the DX Club pic nic to practice for Alcatraz.
Reg-K6SSJ also brought his "go kit" as seen to the left of my go-kit.

Everyone is welcome to come and get on the air!

Ryan get's his Ham Radio study guide autographed by author/Ham Gordon West WB6NOA.
We really enjoyed Pacificon 2008. The presentations on Digital modes, operating in China were well done. It was a very nice event.
2009-Special Event
On Saturday, August 15th, Paul-N6PSE,
George N6NKT and Red-W6ALC held a
special event on Alcatraz to commemorate
the 75th anniversary of the Federal Prison.
Our equipment consisted of the Yaesu
FT-857D "go kit", Buddipole antenna and
was powered via a 90 watt solar panel.
Special thanks to NPS Rangers A. Picavet
and L. Bronson for working with us to make
this event such a success!

We had great weather on "The Rock"

George and Red, working DX on the Buddipole/Solar Powered station.

Paul-N6PSE on the mic. We had a great
location on the roof of the generator building.
Wind speeds on Alcatraz average about
30-40 mph!

This is where you will stay if you miss the
last boat home! This is the main cell block.

Here you can see the solar panel on the right
and the bank of batteries at the base of the
mast. Great set up George!

Our entire operation was powered with a
90 watt solar panel.

We had a lot of fun on Alcatraz and hated to
see this day come to an end. We hope we got
you in our log book. Special QSL cards will be available soon.

Pacificon 2008 was a great event. Good
turnout in the vendor area- except for
Kenwood who cancelled. What is Kenwood's future in ham radio?
